The St. Anthony boys’ golf team made history by winning their third consecutive state championship and seventh overall title at the Class 1A State Final Tournament in Bloomington. Under Coach Phil Zaccari’s leadership, the Bulldogs became just the sixth team since 1975 to achieve a three-peat in Illinois, finishing with a team score of 612 to edge out Fulton (619) and Port Byron Riverdale (621).
After trailing by two strokes following the first round, the team rallied on day two with an impressive 300 total, improving by 12 shots. Senior Joey Trupiano led the charge with a tenth-place finish, while junior Jack Swingler placed 16th and senior Ryan Schmidt took 20th. Strong performances from Dakota Flaig, Maddux Clark, and Alec Hakman rounded out the team’s historic victory.
Coach Zaccari has guided the program to all seven state championships. The victory holds special significance as it marks the first time in Zaccari’s tenure that the Bulldogs have won three consecutive titles, cementing their legacy in St. Anthony’s athletic history. With a strong junior class returning and a culture of excellence firmly established, the Bulldogs’ golf program shows no signs of slowing down in their pursuit of continued success on the links.
