The St. Anthony boys’ basketball team had a historic 2024-25 season, finishing 32-6 and bringing home the fourth-place Class 1A State Trophy.
After a 2-2 start at the Turkey Tournament, the Bulldogs went on a 20-game winning streak, capturing their first Effingham/T-Town Christmas Classic title, back-to-back NTC Tournament championships, and an unbeaten NTC regular-season title. Ryan Schmidt surpassed 1,000 career points, finishing with 1,417, while he and Brock Fearday earned multiple tournament and conference honors.
In the postseason, St. Anthony captured the Central A&M Regional title and went on to win the Sectional championship. A thrilling overtime victory in the Super-Sectional over Mounds Meridian secured the program’s first trip to state since 2017. Though injuries affected their final run, the Bulldogs set a school record for wins in a season and finished as one of the top four teams in Class 1A.
Individually, Brock Fearday broke St. Anthony’s all-time scoring record with 1,775 career points, surpassing a mark that had stood for 52 years. He was named to the IBCA 1A All-State First Team, while Schmidt earned Second Team honors.
With five graduating seniors (Will Fearday, Sam Link, Ryan Schmidt, Maddox Wiedman, and Brock Fearday) leaving their mark on the program, the Bulldogs look ahead to another promising season as they build on this year’s success.
